Thursday Book Review: The Julian Chapter
Readers who loved Wonder, will enjoy this partial sequel to the popular
book by R.J. Palacio. Instead of Auggie or his friends and family
narrating, The Julian Chapter is narrated by Julian, the bully from
Wonder. Its an interesting perspective of how Julian and even his
parents portray Auggie. Through the course of the eBook, Julian remains
indifferent to the trouble he has caused at school regarding Auggie even
when he is suspended for sending nasty notes. His parents ultimately
withdraw him from Beecher Prep at the end of the year but during summer
vacation Julian learns a valuable lesson about being kind to others from
an unlikely source, his French grandmother, who up to this point has
spent little time interacting with Julian. Although much shorter than
Wonder, The Julian Chapter is an excellent addition to the book and fans
will enjoy reading it as they did with Wonder.
If you have not already read Wonder, I encourage you to give it a try. Read my post about it here. And remember, be kind! That's all it takes.
