Tuesday Ten: Bucket List

I love making a bucket list. I haven't checked that many items off my bucket list though - obtain a Master's degree, get married, have a baby. The majority of my bucket list has to do with the travel. I'm just bursting to get out and see the world with Dennis and Carter. Here are 10 more items on my bucket list for today's Tuesday Ten:

[Photo Credit: Pinterest]

At the rate I'm going this will have to be a retirement goal...my goal lately is to be able to read 20 books a year.

[Photo Credit: Pinterest]

Live by the beach or the lake!
I want to be able to wake up and see, smell and hear the water.

Visit Thailand and swim with the elephants!
I pinned this on Pinterest but I also saw it on my favorite show from maternity leave - Better Late Than Never.

Take a photo every day for a year!
I need to get back to my photographer. It's kind of taken a back burner. Carter has me taking a lot more though.

I could cross two things off my bucket list if I went to the Olympics in Japan.

Attend the Kentucky Derby.
This is so doable! I just want to dress up, drink mint juleps and pretend I know what the heck is going on during a horse race.

Travel first class.
Three checks on the bucket list if I travel first class to Japan for the Olympics.

I need this to happen so bad. I love New York City so much and want to see the tree so bad.

Visit all 50 states.
I would love to see the entire country. I'm at 25, so half way there!

These are only a small part of my bucket list! What's on yours? I'd say these today are pretty doable.

Fall Bucket List

I got a new computer a few weeks ago, which I thought would help make writing blog posts easier. However, there are some little things that I'm still learning to do and for some reason adding pictures to blog posts has not happened yet, which explains my text-less posts.

I'm trying very hard to embrace fall. It's not easy. I'm a summer girl. I live for the sunshine and water. It doesn't help either that every year the minute Labor Day comes I welcome my first cold or sinus infection. We are month in and I'm already on my second one this year. Fall is off to a great start.

I didn't make a fall reading list this year because I'm trying to read through some of the stacks around my house. I'm so far behind on my reading for the year too. It's pathetic. I did make a fall bucket list. It makes me excited to know that the end of fall are the holidays, which of course is my favorite time next to summer!

Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall!

I'm a summer girl. I pretty much hate when its less than 80 degrees out and the sun isn't shining. And I won't lie, it depresses me an awful lot come fall when the weather starts I getting cooler. It's already too cold out for me. I thrive on humidity. There are some things that excite me about fall and I've been thinking about it more and more since everyone seems to be posting about pumpkin ales and coffees. I can't say I like either of those but here are some things I'm looking forward to:

Fall Road Trips
Fall is my busy time at work for travel, so I'll be heading to Penn State once and Hershey twice for conferences and meetings. Of course there will also be a trip or two to Lakeside, which I love just as much in the shoulder seasons and we are still planning our "big" trip in November.

Football
I'm so excited to start watching football games again and reading about the Raiders kicking everyone's butts! I'm ready for some Packers games too. Oh yeah, and Steeler games too, which we are hoping to go to a Thursday night game in September.

Friendsgiving
Not gonna lie, I'm probably looking forward to this the most. What could be better than friends, food and football in the park? And this year, I'm not injured so maybe my football game will be better!

Fires
Would you believe that we haven't had one fire the entire summer? Well, I guess we kind of had one at the very beginning of June. The beginning of summer was too wet, then it was too warm and we were really busy. Tonight would have been good for that.

Of course, I'll hike and play golf and maybe some tennis but fall really isn't my season. These will get me through to the holiday season but I'm already mourning the end of summer.

Goodbye summer! I know you aren't over yet but I miss you already!

25 Days of Christmas

It is finally my favorite time of the year and I'm going to make the most of it! Last year, I was deep in wedding thank you notes and putting away gifts. This year I'm going to enjoy every minute of the holiday season and hopefully doing some or all of these activities!

Fall Bucket List

Maybe I'll do better on my fall bucket list than I'll do on my summer one...

I'm actually really excited for fall - I have some work trips in September, a family reunion at Canadohta and our HONEYMOON FINALLY in October. So it will be busy but I'm also looking forward to some traditional fall activities - drinking apple cider, wearing heavy sweaters and seeing the leaves change.

*  Make s'mores.  *  Take a hike.  *  Decorate PUMPKINS.  *  Donate to a FOOD DRIVE.  *

Labor Day Marks the End of My Summer Bucket List

Well, I kicked off summer anticipating hot weather, which I didn't get; reading on the deck, which I did a lot of on weekends during the day; swimming, which I didn't do much of because of the weather; and trips to Lakeside, which I got two but the weather sucked. I wanted to accomplish a lot this summer but I didn't anticipated a busy schedule that included job switching, lousy weather and a busted knee.

COMPLETED:

* HAVE A CAMPFIRE *
Well, we tried last Friday and it was going well for about 10 minutes before the clouds opened up and it started to pour. So much for our campfire...but fall is an awesome time to have a campfire too!

*  Go on a HIKE.  *
I had hoped for more but I got some hikes in at Highland Park and Dennis and I hiked the trails at Squaw Run.

*  Have a PICNIC in the PARK.  *
We love Squaw Run. So we had a picnic there at the beginning of the summer.

*  Got to at least 10 different PARKS.  *
 I had such high hopes for myself with exploring more of the city and county parks but unfortunately I only managed almost half - Highland Park, Squaw Run Park, North Park and East Harbor State Park.

*  Go to an OUTDOOR CONCERT.  *
Well, I had wanted to go to some of the concerts in Highland Park, which I still might on Sunday; Hartwood; and Point State Park during the Arts Festival but I was either busy or the weather was bad. I did listen to the concerts every night of the Guyasuta Days Festival and they were all fabulous!

*  Go to the ZOO.  *
Went to the zoo on probably one of the hottest days of the summer! We had so much fun with Dennis's parents and our niece, Ada.

*  Play DISC GOLF.  *
Ever since Annie and Dalin taught Dennis and I how to play disc golf I've been hooked. Dennis got me a set for Christmas and we finally got to play a few weeks ago at East Harbor while we were at Lakeside. Well, we are no Annie and Dalin. They are disc golf superstars and we suck. Two holes in and I lost my brand new driver in the pond. No one told me they sink. Then Dennis got one stuck in a tree. Thank God we did manage to get that one down. We only made it through the front nine. We need lots of practice and now a new driver.

(Disc stuck way up in the tree.)

*  TIE DYE.  *
I have lots of tie dye shirts from my days as a teen librarian, so I decided to try something new. Bleach tie dye on an old Gap shirt! Turned out pretty great if I don't say so myself!

Displaying WP_20140809_024.jpg

*  Hang out with all of my FRIENDS. *
I tried to at least see them all this summer. It was hard though with busy schedules.

*  Make POPSICLES.  *
I made Popsicles with Naked juice, which was really good and then with yogurt, which was really gross.

*  Go to FLEA MARKET.  *
We went to the Aspinwall Flea Market on THE RAINIEST day of the summer. It was a fast walk through while everyone was running to escape the approaching storm.

*  Ride BIKES. *
At the beginning of the summer I biked a lot on the North Shore Trail and when my knee gets better I will start again.

*  BBQ with friends.  *
Finally got some use of the electric grill and got to spend time with some fabulous friends.

*  Play MINI GOLF.  *
Went to Wildwood Highlands for our traditional post-synod assembly date.

 *  Meet NEW friends.  *
Not sure what I hoped with this goal but I started a new job and I have some wonderful, new coworkers.

*  Make ICE CREAM.  *
Made the best mint chocolate chip ice cream and it was healthy!

  *  Go to a FAIR.  *
Hello Guyasuta Days! I spent entire week at a fair enjoying amazing food, good company and great music.

*  SHOP for honeymoon.  *
Started to get some stuff. I'm waiting till after Labor Day to get some steals.

RELAX!!!
It wasn't easy but I did. I read a lot. I tried not to stress out. I swam. I spent time with friends and family. I learned to relax a bit.

NOT COMPLETED:

*  Go to a DRIVE-IN MOVIE.  *
Well, another summer come and gone and I've still never been to a drive-in movie!!!

*  Spend all day at a BEACH.  *
Well, I attempted to spend entire days at the dock but it rained or it was cold. If it doesn't rain, I'm going to Moraine still this weekend to do nothing but lay on the warm sand and read.

*  Go FISHING.  *
 This didn't happen. I don't have a fishing license in Pennsylvania and I didn't have time in Ohio.

*  Go to a FARMER'S MARKET.  *
I never made it to a farmer's market but I intend to this week hopefully.

* Play TENNIS.  *
The first summer I didn't play tennis AT ALL!!! Thanks to my shoulder at the beginning of the summer and now my knee. I'm introducing myself to some low impact sports so that I can enjoy tennis and running again but sparingly.

*  Have a summer CRAFT NIGHT.  *
What happened to summer? I was so busy. My Pinterest buddies were so busy. No craft night. I have some stuff to do this weekend but its not the same without my Pinterest pals.

*  Go to a DRIVING RANGE.  *
Hopefully we'll get there this fall!

 *  Go to an AMUSEMENT PARK.  *
Got the tickets, now we just need a completely free day or evening!

*  Take a ROAD TRIP.  *
I don't think Lakeside counts as a road trip.

I'll miss you summer, especially since I'm still craving hot weather and lots of swimming but that's why I have the Caribbean in a month!!!

August Goals

Today's blog prompt was monthly goals - I don't really have monthly goals because I try to do daily goals that correspond with my yearly goals. If you read my blog, you know I'm a goal person. This month, here are some of the things I wanted to accomplish (in no particular order):

Work on gift ideas for upcoming celebration (friends having babies, anniversaries, birthdays, etc.).

Finish my summer reading list. Read additional summer and old favorites on the weekends, including Summer I Turned Pretty, Last Summer of You and Me, Marley and Me, Firefly Lane and Nantucket Red.

Try new recipes in the kitchen for dinner and parties.

Finish my birthday random acts of kindness list.

Organize my Pinterest boards. Update my social media accounts.

Watch movies I haven't seen in awhile - Dick and Pippi Longstocking.

Finish my summer bucket list.

Work on organizing the apartment better.

Take more photographs.

Write more blog posts.

I can honestly say that I have completed most of my goals for August already. I try to make them easy, so that they can just fit right into my daily to-do list.

And of course my biggest goal is to savor what's left of summer...

This year more than ever, summer is needed! After a long winter and cold spring, I'm ready for hot weather, reading on the deck, swimming and trips to Lakeside. There's a lot I want to do this summer.

Fall Bucket List

I'm definitely a summer girl but there is always a point in September where I look forward to fall. The weather has turned and as much as I was sad for the 90 degree weather to leave, I'm ready for the cool evenings around the fire, crisp leaves underfoot and cozy wool sweaters. At the start of every season, I always have high hopes and make a bucket list of items that I want to do during the next few months. Most of the time I accomplish some but fall is just a little crazy with a major fundraiser at the library and the wedding!
My Fall Bucket List (not a cool infographic like on Pinterest because I don't have time for that)
Go on a hayride.
I can already check this off the list because this is our transportation for the wedding. The wedding party gets to take a hayride around the camp for pictures and then arrive back at the dining hall via a genuine camp hayride.
Make s'mores on a bonfire.
I haven't had one s'more all summer. How disappointing! It was either rainy or too hot to have a fire most nights this summer but fall is perfect for using the fire pit and making a delicious s'more. I'm too cheap for these sometimes though but I will splurge soon.
Go to a pumpkin patch.
The pumpkin patch is the epitome of a perfect fall afternoon. I don't even know the last time I went to a pumpkin patch. I'm not a big Halloween person. However, I want to this year. I think more the opportunities to take awesome photos of pumpkins.
Decorate or carve a pumpkin.
I can check this off because I'm making puking pumpkins with the tweens at the library. I could make a normal one too though if I'm going to the pumpkin patch. We made really fun ones two years ago at the library with candy. I also spray painted one.
Go on a fall picnic.
I love picnics and I didn't get to go on one this summer, so it will have to happen in fall. We live so close to Highland Park that it would easy to just go there and enjoy the fall foliage, walk the trails and enjoy fall.
Hike and take lots of picture of the scenery.
This one I will be able to check off as well since we are going to Hocking Hills after the wedding. It is the best hiking around there and the best pictures. Now I have a camera to use too but I'll have to be careful since its challenging hiking.
Celebrate Friends-giving!
Dennis and I decided that we wanted to have a Friends-giving this year at the apartment. We probably won't get to celebrate Thanksgiving together, so this will be one way to do that as well. Plus we want to cook for all our friends.
Rake leaves.
I don't have a rake or a yard for that matter, so this probably won't be happening. There aren't any trees at my parents house either. I will just have to make myself available to my friends who have yards. Call me.
Go to a Mount Union game.
On Mount to victory! It's been way too long since I was at a Mount game. It's probably not in the cards this fall but nothing beats a Saturday afternoon cheering on the Raiders to another victory.
Go to Bob's for Halloween.
Halloween at Bob's is fabulous and it is so much fun to dress up and watch all the cougar Playboy bunnies strut their stuff and sing karaoke. Moscow Mules here I come!

That's my fall list. Not sure what will actually happen. Happy Fall!
